This digital artwork is an extension of Kihara’s previous performance work entitled ‘Taualuga; the last dance’ (2006), where the visual cue of ‘Siva in motion’ echoes the work of Futurist photographer and physiologist Etienne-Jules Marey (1830–1904). Kihara uses the choreographic movements of the Samoan ‘taualuga’ – a stately dance technique of the Samoan taupou, or high-born ceremonial village maiden, to re-tell the experience of the tsunami which effected Samoa in September 2009.
